“Use AI Responsibly, Respect Copyright” Seminar and Launch of the 2026/27 Hong Kong Inter-School Respect Copyright Education Campaign

On 29 September 2026, the Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Licensing Society (HKRRLS) hosted the “Use AI Responsibly, Respect Copyright” seminar and launched the 2026/27 Hong Kong Inter-School Competition on Respect for Intellectual Property. The event brought together representatives from the legal, education, information technology and intellectual property sectors to discuss the use of generative AI in education and the copyright questions it raises.

At the seminar, HKRRLS launched its Guidelines for Schools on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence. Prepared with the assistance of legal counsel, the guidelines offer schools a starting point for procuring AI services and developing their own procedures for using AI tools. They address intellectual property risks involving third-party works and AI-generated outputs, privacy and confidentiality, and the need for human oversight and intervention where appropriate.

We thank our speakers and panellists—Ms Theresa Luk, Partner at Deacons; Mr Francis Fong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing; Principal Chu Ka Tim, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education; Mr Albert Wong, Chairman of the Association of IT Leaders in Education; and Dr Sharon Wong, Executive Director of HKRRLS—for sharing their experience and perspectives.

The event also marked the launch of the 11th edition of the inter-school competition. Under this year’s theme, *“Use AI Responsibly, Protect Creativity and Copyright,”* the competition encourages students to develop new ideas, use AI lawfully and responsibly, and respect the creative work of others.

Our sincere thanks go to the Intellectual Property Department, the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, our supporting and partner organisations, and everyone who contributed to the event. HKRRLS looks forward to continuing its work with educators and industry partners to advance intellectual property education and the responsible use of generative AI.
