IP Roundtable 2026 | Copyright, Licensing and Innovation in the Age of AI

HKRRLS was honoured to co-organise the IP Roundtable 2026: “Copyright in Transition: Reshaping Rights, Challenges & Opportunities in the Age of AI” with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) during the Hong Kong Book Fair. The event was sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) and was followed by a welcoming dinner with our speakers, guests and industry partners.

The Roundtable focused on the evolving role of copyright and collective licensing in the AI era, exploring how innovation can be supported while ensuring that authors, publishers and other rightsholders are respected and fairly remunerated. Moderated by Dr Sharon Wong, Executive Director of HKRRLS, the discussion brought together valuable insights from Ms Sarah Tran of IFRRO, Ms Hege Munch Gundersen of Kopinor, Norway, Mr James Bennett of the Copyright Licensing Agency, United Kingdom, Ms Theresa Luk of Deacons, Hong Kong, Ms Majd Hassan Al Shehhi of ERRA, UAE, and Mr Ahmed Hussain of MARC, Malaysia.

The exchange reaffirmed the important role of reprographic rights organisations (RROs) in connecting governments, rightsholders, users and technology stakeholders, and in developing practical and sustainable licensing frameworks for responsible AI development.
